Feed me!

Help! I finally decided it was time that 10 things and the The Web Betty Blog had their own domains, and stopped freeloading off of Web-Betty. So, I purchased domains through my host, upgraded WBB to WordPress 2.6.3, and am ready, I think, to make the big change.

I’m armed with 3 blogs providing information on changing the domain, which I will list as soon as the switch is done and I can say whether or not they helped with the process. I am coming up short, however, on what to do with my RSS feed (which is through Feedburner). I’ve tried some searching, but every resource I pull up just confuses me. Can someone outline the steps I need to take to change my RSS feed without jacking everything up? I don’t have a gazillion subscribers, but I’d like to keep the 20 I have. ;)

  1. I think all you would need to do, since you’re using Feedburner, is to change the address with them.

Log into Feedburner, click the title of your feed.
Click “Edit Feed Details…” which is towards the top, under the title of your feed.
Change the “Original Feed” from what it is now, to what it will be with the new domain.
    DON’T change “Feed Address”

    That should do it.

  3. @Stefanie: Thank you! I’m going to see if I can get it to work. Do I need to inform my existing subscribers of the change?

@Kayla: Thank you so much for the award. You’ll see me rave about it here soon! :)

  4. You have got me on this one. I will investigate this a bit and if I find something I will let you know. In the meantime the advice given by Stefanie sounds pretty right to me. Congratulations on your decision to split the blogs, you are now a ‘multi blogger’ I suppose.

  5. I don’t know either, but if Stefanie’s advice does not work you could always ask the Feedburner Help Group @ http://groups.google.com/group/feedburner?pli=1

  6. Well, hopefully I didn’t mess anything up for either blogs. I went in to FeedBurner and simply changed the URL of the original feed to point to the new domain. It seems to be working, but if you note any problems, please let me know. :)

  7. Things seem to be working. My reader did show that your last ten posts were unread but everything else looks normal.
