And the winner is…

[cue the applause] …Willem’s Internet Blog! Thanks go out to both Willem and Miss Tique for wanting the last ad spot on my sidebar. While I wish I had two spots available, one for each of them, I choose Willem’s blog as its content is more fitting with the content here. I am a firm believer in content consistency.

That being said, I must say I was completely underwhelmed at the response to giving away this ad spot. I think I will need to re-evaluate 10 things during the first few months of the year. This blog takes quite a bit of time and it seems to me if I only have 3 readers (thanks, as always, Lyndi :) ) what’s the point?

I do know I need to keep a better blogging schedule than what I have done in the past. What else should I be doing? Your insight (all 3 of you :P ) is greatly appreciated!

  1. If you had put the ad space up for sale you would have had numerous offers. People just do not seem to believe that one can actually give something away for nothing these days. Everyone seems to think that there has got to be a catch somewhere.

The holiday period will soon be over and then everything will be back to normal.

At least you have still got a blog. My hosting company has done something stupid and my blog is off-air. To top it all, it seems as if these guys do not work on weekends and I may have to wait for Monday. I have mailed everyone in the company, including the general manager, so maybe, just maybe, someone will come fix the thing before Monday.

    • Oh no! Do you mean Nice 2 All? I was just there and didn’t see any problems. (Love the new header, BTW.)

The holidays do make for some sporadic blogging. I bet Jan. and Feb. are busy with everyone making ‘blogging resolutions’. ;)

  2. You do have at least 4 readers. :)

I didn’t want to apply for the ad spot because of the very reason you chose Willem’s – why would you be wanting to advertise a postcard collection after all? It didn’t seem appropriate.

I follow your blog and try to take on board as much of what you say as I can, but I’m aware that I fail on a number of points. As a result I try to keep out of the limelight as much as possible. :) I would like to bet there are a number of other lurkers out there too, who don’t want to put their heads above the parapet.

  3. Let me start with saying Thank You! I really appreciate your choice. I’m currently working to get your ad working on my blog as promised.

I especially like the reason you chose my blog. That’s why I offered an ad-exchange in the first place. Your blog is one of my favourites and I’m proud to host your ad on my site. I’ve learned quite a few things from reading your reviews of other sites and I assume, so have many others.

That does not mean that you’ll find no hateable (is that a word?) things on my site…. I’m looking forward (just a bit scared) to your review.

    Thanks again!

  4. …make that 5 readers! lol ! I’m sure you have a heck of a lot more with a blog like yours. I didn’t offer my ad for the same reason you chose Willem’s. Mine’s a decorating and art blog, so…
anyway, with the holidays and what not I’ve also found myself ‘withdrawing’ a bit from the blogging scene and spending some quality time with family. I’ve also become more aware of how blogging sucks away at my time leaving me less time for really creative work that I should be doing. Unfortunately it also has not been returning the rewards I expected after all my investing. I hoped that by now I would at least be making back my expenses (I’ve been blogging for a year). I guess I should be more consistent with posting. I don’t know. I guess my mistake was that at first it started as just a personal journal of my work and then I thought that I might make it more profitable. Things always change when money comes into the equation, basically the fun went out of it. So I will have to make a reassessment of my true intentions and goals. I wish you all the very best for the New Year and that you enjoy everything you embark on….

    • Thanks Lena.

Sometimes blogging is a thankless job. :)

I can relate to the time-suck blogging can be. I made a conscience decision to refrain from paid advertise here at 10 things, and I plan on continuing this way for now. The 4 “ad” spots here really just an extension of my blog roll, with the last spot given to Willem since his blog is relevant to mine, and he asked for it. ;)

Do what is in your heart and you can’t go wrong!

  5. I don’t think it misses readers, but people tend to be lazy in commenting. I, for one, am and in very few occasions I comment, although I think I read more than 150 blogs per day.

Plus, there has also been the holiday spirit haunting everybody and less and less spent their time online.

But I guess things will turn back to normal. I like what you do and what you write, so no suggestions to change anything from here.

    Congrats, Willem!
And what a lovely new avatar pic, Lyndi :)

    • Hi Miss Tique, and thanks for the kind words. I, too, visit quite a few blogs a day and don’t always comment unless I feel I can say something more than “nice post.”

  6. Congrats to Willem, don’t know how I missed the ad spot contest! I subscribe to your feed so you have another reader.

  7. In some ways what you asked for was worth more to readers than money – their time. I remember reading your contest and briefly considered posting something, but then realized that I probably would not win and just come about sounding pathetic begging for an advertising spot. :) I do enjoy reading your blog though, so don’t give it up or get discouraged. I for one would like to read more of your reviews. I have used various pieces of advice you have given to others for myself.

    • One of the things I’ve had to think about during the holiday was my blogging commitment. I realize that while many blogs have asked to be in the queue, I have not posted as many reviews as I should given my “backlog.”

After a lot of thought, I’ve decided that I will continue with 10 things. With this decision comes the commitment to post on a more regular basis. So look for more critiques in the near future!

  8. hi

I hope you will keep this blog going! I may not leave comments ( I am a mom of five with a sick spouse, so after doing my daily work at home and keep my three blogs going, I find very little time for much else) but I do come and read often and always find something to learn from your comments about blogs and how to present our blogs successfully.
I personally would have loved to have bought an ad here, and when the day comes that I can afford to I most certainly will!

:-) Happy New Year and God Bless

    • Hi Lisa,

Welcome to 10 things! There was no cost involved for the “ad” space, however, you might not have been chosen based on the topic of the blog submitted. Willem is a good fit right now. :)

You sound busier than me! How you have 3 more kids than I and have time for multiple blogs is beyond me. I like Rock Music ~ KOME Style, although I confess I haven’t visited in a bit. Look for me to be a more regular reader. :)

  9. You definitely have more readers than you think. :-) Many of us were MIA over the holidays, it’s a busy time of year. Others don’t always remember to comment or have your posts in our readers waiting for a few spare moments.

I’d have left a comment about the ad space if I’d checked my Google Reader feeds before today. lol I’m sorry to have missed out on the great opportunity.

Still, I’m looking forward to what “10 things I hate about your site” brings up over the year ahead. :-) Your insights and constructive thoughts are wonderful and refreshing to read.
